Yep, agreed. Problem with the delays is mainly that I'm the only one working on it... :( Time isn't enough. But I'm working hard to try to get this out ASAP!
Yes, simply find the station you like, start playing it and press the bit ( + ) button on the player. That will save it to your favorites.
There are advantages on some devices.

Using Android engine most cases is better in terms of battery usage since the media is decoded by hardware which is highly optimized for performance and low power usage, but not all devices decode at the hardware layer.  FFmpeg engine decodes currently on the software layer which is a bit more power consuming.

Some devices tend to have decoders that do a horrible job decoding AAC streams. They sound very low quality... That's when FFMpeg engine can fix that since it uses a different decoder.
Please let me know what version of Android your device is running on, what version of XiiaLive are you using, and if this happens with AAC stations or MPEG stations.
Could you explain a bit more what you mean? Thanks!
Thanks for your feedback. Your concern is valid and let me explain a bit why we changed things a little.

We essentially wanted to simplify the design and maximize the space for the lists of stations and the player.  By combining all in one menu bar we eliminated the old bottom menu bar and provide a bit more space for other things.

We definitively want to keep your suggestion in mind and will see how to possibly make going home a bit faster.

This seems almost impossible for it to be happening on the free version since it does not include the licensing check code.  What is the name of the app when you open it? XiiaLive or XiiaLive lite?
Haha... Ooops! Yep, fixed it! Good catch!
This is an interesting issue.  It seems that as a way to not interrupt the connection the device is keeping it's connection.  I'll check if somehow we can get the available network type and see if we can force it to switch.  Thanks for the info!
