Stream starts repeating / skipping.

Version 3.0

After playing for a while the stream starts skipping like a scratched record if you remember those. The green bar runs out and the skipping commences. This happened on several different Shoutcast streams.

This issue has been resolved! It was also reproducible on our end.  The new fix will remove garbled/skipped/repeated parts of playback generally heard when starting a new stream while there was already another playing.

Update will be release sometime this week.

Oh, yeah scratched records :)

Few questions for you:

1. What is your device name/model and what version of Android is it running.

2. Does this issue happen with MPEG stations only? or AAC too? This particular info is important to understand where the issue could be coming from.

3. After how long are you noticing the repeating and skipping? Does it happen after you do a pause or seek?

Thanks!

I'm running on a Nexus 7 - Jelly Bean 4.1.1. I'm using what is called Android (Maybe MPEG?) streaming, the default. It happens after about 1/2 hour + of streaming. Hmmm ... I guess it could be happening after I pause for a bit of time. I do pause it a lot.

BTW: Nice app, good update .. In general the streaming seems to be a bit better when I use it in my car and the wireless has a weak signal.

Thanks for the info. Got one more question. When you notice this issue do you see a little red cue point close to the playback position? This red cue point means it got disconnected at that point.  I'm just trying to figure out if the auto recovery is the issue...  You could try turning off the smart recovery under settings->stream and seeing if the issue goes away...

Oh, thanks for the nice app comment! :)

I'm running into the same problem.  I only listen to one station, but I've never had this problem with it until the upgrade.  Android 2.3.4.  HTC MyTouch 4g (Glacier).  MPEG station.  I'm not pausing it, but it will sometimes lose the signal while I walk around the house and that will pause the stream, then it jumps all around trying to re-synchronize.  Sometimes it never gets back in sync and I have to stop and restart the stream.  This is not a deal killer, but is kind of annoying.  Thanks for looking into it.

Thanks for the feedback! This helps a little more understand why this issue is happening...  The reason might be exactly that... the smart recovery.  I would recommend you reproduce the issue of the re-connection and collect the logs.  This might help me see why your device is having issues.

Here is how to collect the logs:

I haven't been able to duplicate it this weekend, but maybe this is because I increased both the pre-buffer length and buffer length.  Something seems to have done the trick.

.

Actually I only see 2 song break bars. I They move back and forth when the problem occurs. There is no indication the the connection was lost. I streamed for a few hours a few nights ago and never used the paused function. It worked fine. I think is does have something to do with pausing. If it happens again I'll collect the logs. Also a sort of side question . If the connection is lost what's supposed to happen? My stream stops until it reconnects. Isn't the five minute buffer suppose to kick in? Just curious what the five minute buffer is used for

Thanks for the info. About your question. Well, you are streaming live content made as it is coming in. In general a re connection can take a few seconds depending how fast your phone can recover the connection to the internet.  While the app is waiting for that you are "burning playback time". When there is no more playback time left and the app is still waiting to re connect, it will get into a buffering state.  In order to improve a larger pre-buffer length could help avoid getting into the buffering state when re connecting.
