Pandora Hijacking Xiia Via Bluetooth

Jamey Sewell 10 years ago updated by Jona (Lead Developer) 10 years ago 10

I frequently use both apps connected via Bluetooth radio in my car. Xiia works just fine until I use the car radio to switch to Pandora and then back to Xiia. The car tells me that Bluetooth audio is paused. When I hit the play button on car radio, nothing happens.  I can see Xiia playing on the phone, but not through the radio. To resolve, I have to force close both apps via phone. This is dangerous while driving.  It seems like Pandora is hijacking the signal. Can it be resolved?

Please try turning ON Ignore audio focus under XiiaLive->Settings->Sound and see if the issue still happens. This should let me narrow down the issue.

Also, please provide the following info:

- Device

- Android version

- BT device info

I have a Nexus 5 running 4.4 Kit Kat, (Locked and stock) and a similar thing happens to me. I will be listening to a station and if a phone call comes in it will not resume play after call...shows only as paused. It is almost like the app freezes. I press play and the app does not respond... I have to restart app. It will do this with any notification that comes in during streaming as well, such as a text or email notification.

Is this issue happening while connected to only BT? If not please do a new post so I can easily follow up and try to resolve the issue. :) Thanks!

It seems to only be when connected to Bluetooth.I just had someone call then text me while running xiia without Bluetooth and all was fine.

Perfect. Thanks for clearing that up! This must be BT related... I'll be investigating.

About 2 hrs after posting my last comment I was back on BT and  I could get no sound through speakers (2012 Tacoma), there was no sound from phone either...my truck radio showed no artist info either (it usually shows artist and song), Xiia player looked like it was streaming fine, but no sound. I tried TuneIn and it worked fine..  I tried reboot and run Xiia again and nothing. I uninstalled Xiia, reinstalled and all is fine. Xiia doesnt freeze when a call or text comes through anymore. Not sure if it will start again...but im glad to have Xiia back for now. I have used Xiia over BT in this truck for 2 years now with no problems using Galaxy Nexus and Nexus 4....never wonky until G5 with KitKat.

I will post again if problem persists. And Thank you for Xiialive.

Thanks for the update. I recently got a new car with BT finally and I was able to use Xiia on the Nexus5. I did notice some issues with metadata not being updated. Now that I can see and reproduce the issue, I will be investigating how to potentially resolve this problem.

Update: problem started again. Phone call will put Xiia on pause and I have to restart app to resume play. Notifications dont freeze it anymore though...so thats something. This is on BT as before.

So I was so frustrated that I uninstalled Pandora. It turns out that now my standard music player hijacks the blutooth audio. So if I play anything on the standard player, it will not Xiia Live stream audio to my car radio. If I turn my car off and reboot my phone (without using the standard player when it reboots), everything works fin again.
When audio focus is disabled, Both sources of audio (Stock Player and Xiaa) come through the stream simultaneously. It would be nice to have that last player to become default until a different player is selected. Perhaps a fix would be... "Always focus on Xiaa" unless other player is manually running. Once other player is manually stopped focus will go back to xiaa.   Also, the controls from the car radio looses focus. They no longer work when stock player is selected
Hey, I was able to improve various areas of BT on the release v3.0.3. Has the app worked a bit better since then?

I recommend you set Media control to ON under Settings->App control. This will give 100% control to XiiaLive for all commands from your BT stereo.

Then to make sure that when you turn off your car the app stops streaming go to Settings->App control and click on Bluetooth options. There find your car stereo device and set Auto stop to ON.

Because of all this complexity with BT setups with cars and stereos I'm planning to work on a wizard to help optimize the app for a particular BT device.
