We definitely want to provide the app on iOS. It is just a bit difficult since we are very small company and resources aren't enough :(. But we are actually working to improve XiiaLive for Android which in turn will contain a lot of the projects core code to be reusable on iOS. So it should make this a lot easier for moving it to iOS.

I really would like to port it over sometime this year! :)

Developing a Radio App

Anonymous 14 years ago updated by Jona (Lead Developer) 14 years ago 0
Hi There,

Do you by any chance develop Android Radio App? I have a ShoutCast based radio that I wanted to develop the Android app for, and I was wondering if you provide any app development services. Here's the iPhone app if you would like to get an idea what I am looking for: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/bidar-tv/id348436057?mt=8

Thanks,
Reza

We are currently not developing applications for independent radios but will be providing soon our streaming engine library. We will most likely license it for use.

Can't change songs from the widget. The forward and back arrows are grayed out.

Is this a pro version feature?

HTC Thunderbolt 4.0.4

You are correct, the widget PREV/NEXT buttons are grayed out because they are a Pro feature. With these buttons you can start streaming the next favorite station. It does not allow you to skip to the next song since you are streaming live radio.

widget play

Namgah 12 years ago updated by Jona (Lead Developer) 12 years ago 0

Widget's play button must be pressed twice, after forward/back has been pressed while player is stopped.

Widget: XiiaLive - Main

Device: GN-N7000

OS: 4.1.2

Answer
Jona (Lead Developer) 12 years ago

Please note that when pressing PREV/NEXT buttons there is about 2 sec delay until the request starts playing. However, you should see immediately the title of the station that will be played. We do this to allow the user to surf the favorite stations quickly. If you still feel this is not the issue you are having please let me know.

play local music

Joseph Rubin 9 years ago updated by Rodrigo (Developer) 9 years ago 3

Mr Jona, I see that you have been promising support to play local music files, for years now. Any idea when/if this will happen? I'd love to have the option to control my music volume separate from the main media volume

Answer
Rodrigo (Developer) 9 years ago

Hi Joseph,

XiiaLive doesn't support local mp3 media files, the main idea is to support straming.

Android media server?

Cristian Cocos 13 years ago updated by Tim M 13 years ago 1
Not sure I understand what XiiaLive does from reading the info on your website. Does XiiaLive stream music stored on one's Android phone? Can I, hence, use it as an Android media server, to stream my music from my Android device's flash card to other Android devices? I'd very much welcome such an application, and wish to install it on my Logitech Revue (which will be getting Honeycomb soon). Also, as a feature suggestion, how about streaming FLACs?
Answer
Tim M 13 years ago

Well no :)

Xiialive is a streaming app. We use the SHOUTcast database (radio stations) and provide it to all android users. You can also add stations that are not in the database by going to your favorites or opening one from the browser. You can however broadcast your own station on SHOUTcast.com for free.
http://www.shoutcast.com/broadcast-tools

About the .flac streams... We are going to investigate a little more and see if we need a codec or not. It might already work with the internal stream engine turned on. Flac is only supported on android 3.1 and up though...
Do you have any .flac stations we can use for testing?

Answer
Jona (Lead Developer) 14 years ago
Great question! The radio stations that we show on XiiaLive come from a free directory called SHOUTcast. These stations are owned by different people and they sometimes place audio ads to support their stations. Most of the time not a lot of ads. XiiaLive as you know has two versions, one free and the other paid. The main differences is that free has visual ads, we never add audio ads, if there where any audio ads it doesn't come from us but from the broadcaster. And paid version without visual ads and mostly for people that like to support our work. Thanks again for your feedback, let us know any questions.

Issue should be resolved when the new stream engine is released. No ETA for the release of this new stream engine but we are actively working on it.
